Food Storage Milk: Is There Something My Kids Will Drink?

Here are two milk products that several people have referred me to for food storage milk that kids actually like to drink. Always worth a try. I will be taking a trip to the Gossner factory in Logan this summer to taste and try their shelf milk. If anyone has tried either of these products, I would appreciate your comments.

  1. I’m another that bought morning moos, but was really disappointed when I got around to reading the label. No doubt it tastes better, it has added sugars and hydrogenated oils. The thing that made me really turn away from it was the protein content. The protein content on Morning moos is only 3 grams per 8 oz serving versus 8for most other brands. I store milk figuring it is a source of protein, not so with Morning Moos. I have used it in my bread and I didn’t notice a difference, but I would prefer something with more of a nutritional punch.

  2. Re milk: morning moo only last 3 months once it’s opened – :(Our Costco sells those 3 month emergency supply buckets. There is milk in them and it was being demo’d a couple of weeks ago, I am not a milk drinker but that stuff was good!!! They are supposed to be coming out with larger sizes in a short (couple of weeks/months??) while.

  3. I LOVE Morning Moo. I bought it at Macey’s when I was in College and drank it instead of regular milk. (I’m a big milk drinker, and prefer 2%).

  4. I’ve heard Morning Moo’s is a great product.I am bad because I have not done much research myself – aka taste tests – on powdered milks.Came over from Bobbi Jo’s blog – Hello 😀

  5. I also use Morning Moos. It is great! Because I have a few picky eaters, I tried to mix half and half – Morning Moos and Regular 2% milk. (In the regular milk container) My kids didn’t notice the difference! Also, if you like strawberry shakes, pick up some strawberry flavor milk. It tastes just like a shake!

  6. I have lots of Morning Moos and it is great. I have done some research and read that it is not great for baking (I personally have not tried). I have regular powdered milk in my storage as well. I have purchased the Gssner milk in individual containers and my kids take it to school for their lunch.

  7. I recently purchased a large bag of Morning Moo and was very disappointed. I thought it did taste good (maybe a little aftertaste) but it is not nutritious. I’m not a health nut but I want my kids to drink milk–not all the hydrogenated fat and other junk that is in Morning Moo. I ordered it from Walton Feed and their website has the nutritional information. Something to be aware of if you are thinking about Morning Moo.

  8. UtahMomof7, I’m so glad that you posted about this, because I had ordered 1~#10 can of the Morning Moo’s along with a couple of other items from Blue Chip Group but we’ve not gotten around to trying it yet. It’s so great to hear such great reviews of it from so many people! Thanks everyone for taking the time to share your experiences!

  9. Thanks for all of your great comments! My neighbor brought over some Skim Gossner shelf milk yesterday as she regularly visits Logan, UT. My daughter and I tried it and it was great! Can’t wait to try all the flavors. Those of you coming to General Conference in October could plan to pick up food storage products then. You can have friends shop at the case lot grocery store sales in September and save items for you to take back. Might need a little trailer. 🙂

  10. We didn’t have much milk in our storage, because nobody likes powdered milk without sugar and cinnamon. We just bought 6 of the big buckets of morning moos and use it everyday. We like it better than actual milk…oh, and their chocolate milk is amazing. How it turns out thick and smooth I will never know, but it’s awesome.

  11. Morning Moo it is for me and my house! We live in Canada and we have searched high and low for something my kids will drink and especially something that my husband would even try. He is the fussiest! I have to admit though that even I would quit drinking milk cold turkey if there wasn’t Morning Moo available to drink. It’s amazing! I was SO happy that my cousin took a trip down there to bring us back a load of it. I could just KISS the inventor of this stuff. : DMy kids are drinking it and they don’t even know it! Trust me. They knew instantly that they had powdered milk before….but NOT with this stuff!

  12. I can verify what Dean says about MorningMoos milk alternative. We tried it before we bought more to bring back to Canada. After mixing and leaving in the fridge overnight, we were trying it secretly at breakfast so the kids wouldn’t know. Our little granddaughter heard us whispering and said, “It tastes just like our milk!” …and it did!. Wish we could get it here in Canada. R. Easter

  13. My sister-in-law and I are in charge of getting all our emergency prep stuff ready for our respective families. We live in Virginia and just went to our local dry pack cannery yesterday. I found Morning Moos products/Blue Chip Groups inventory list the other day (via your Web site) and am amazed at their variety. We want to get some of it but shipping would be a killer!! I wish they had a place closer to the east coast!

  14. Morning Moo is everything they say it is and more. I really did not believe it would be as good as it is. We had powdered milk when I was young and I hated it! We bought the Morning Moo even though I was still hesitant. I mixed it, put it in the fridge overnight to get nice and cold (you use hot water to mix it initially). In the morning I poured a glass and took a big gulp! I could not believe it was not store bought that day! It tasted exactly like fresh milk. We have mixed it at varying strengths now and the taste is equivalent to 2%, 1% or skim depending on how strong you mix it. We live in Canada and you cannot buy it here so we hope to find someone going south that can get us more. I am a fussy person when it comes to food and I can tell you that this milk is excellent. I poured the milk in a regular milk jug and my children drank it for two days before I said anything. They had not even noticed! I have not tried the Gossner U.H.T. Milk but I don’t think I would even bother. Storing dry power Morning Moo takes a lot less space and considering that it costs about a $1 per gallon, it would be hard to beat.

  15. Your kids will LOVE the flavored milks! The whipping cream is a lifesaver and (sometimes)cheaper that fresh. Get plenty of samples of cheese while you’re there as well as some curds. I mix the pints with fresh milk 1/2 and 1/2 to stretch the fresh with food storage and for rotation. Good luck!

  16. The Gossner milk is a favorite at our house! My kids love the different flavors of milk. Some of them seemed odd to me at first but the kids love them and I don’t mind them either. They are great to have in storage!
