This week our fourth November prep challenge is to buy emergency laundry supplies for hand washing and everyday use. When I visited Tangier, Morocco, I saw how the poor washed their clothes by hand and hang them to dry on roof tops. A washer and dryer would have been a luxury for them, and it really is a luxury for most of us. After an extended power outage, you may need to wash your clothes by hand and hang them to dry too. Are you ready for that? Look over the supply list below to see if there is something you need.
Buy Emergency Laundry Supplies
During a power outage, you can wash clothes in a sink and drain in a bathtub. Or wash in a plastic tub or bucket if your drain isn’t working. Do you have enough water stored to wash clothes if your pipes become clogged?
You never know if laundry detergent will disappear from store shelves, so it’s a good idea to have at least a month’s supply of on hand. Here are some useful laundry items.
- wash tub or bucket
- another bucket to rinse
- vinyl gloves (protect hands)
- laundry detergent

Hope you’ll take on this challenge and buy emergency laundry supplies. May you have a blessed week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Best wishes and stay healthy,
The Food Storage Organizer
