Buy Long-term Food Storage Pasta • April Prep Challenge #4

Our last prep challenge for April is to buy long-term food storage spaghetti or macaroni and use it during job loss or disaster. If you have space and finances, store a year’s supply. However, if you live in a small home, stock up on what will fit in your grocery pantry.

For longer-term needs, and where permitted, gradually build a supply of food that will last a long time and that you can use to stay alive, such as wheat, white rice, and beans.

How Much Pasta to Store?

  • How many pounds of pasta does your family currently eat in one month? Multiply this amount by 12 to figure out a 1-year supply.
  • One recommendation for a year’s supply of pasta per adult is 21 lbs. or 6 x #10 cans. See An Approach to Longer Term Food Storage. Adjust amounts for children.
  • Read more about long-term food storage at churchofjesuschrist.org/topics/food-storage/longer-term-food-supply
  • To prevent long-term pasta from expiring, use a small portion of a can each year and replenish it. Rotating pasta is easier than you think.

Buy Long-Term Pasta Food Storage

  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sells long-term 30-year shelf life macaroni and spaghetti bites (small 1-inch pasta) in cans on their website.
  • You may purchase them at store.churchofjesuschrist.org, or pick-up at Home Storage Centers at locations in the United States and Canada.
  • Perhaps purchase a few boxes with six cans this year.

Pasta is a food many children will eat especially during difficult times. Purchase long-term food storage pasta so your family won’t go without in times of need.

Best wishes and look for the good in others,
