This week’s prep challenge is to buy shelf-stable food storage beverages. Which beverages does your family drink now? If disaster struck, could they live without them? Could they eat oatmeal and cereal without milk? Do you drink canned or powdered beverages? Would you benefit from stocking up on a two-week supply of those and a long-term supply of powdered milk?

Buy Food Storage Beverages
First, consider your finances and storage space.
- Do you want a combination of canned drinks and powdered drinks? Powdered drinks take less space but require stored water.
- Do you want protein shakes or powder?
- I always keep an electrolyte powder in stock for heat exhaustion and illness.
- Do you have at least a 2-week supply of infant formula on your shelf if stores shut down?
Long-Term Beverages
One long-term food storage option is the nonfat dry milk made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It provides necessary calcium and protein.
- It has a 20-year shelf life if stored in a cool, dry place.
- A 28 oz. resealable pouch makes 29 servings.
- Though nonfat, it has a GREAT taste when chilled!
- It’s easy to substitute this dry milk into your cooking and smoothies as well.
- One recommendation for a 12-month supply per adult is 28 pouches (49 lbs.). You may purchase some online at store.churchofjesuschrist.org or at Home Storage Centers.
Some people say they have never used their long-term food storage so why store some? Perhaps the blessings have already come. I hope you’ll work on this prep challenge and add shelf-stable food storage beverages to your grocery list this week.
Stay focused and enjoy the blessings!
